Last week on wednesday night I went with Raina to see Transformers 2, it was ok. Longer than the first and more explosions than you can poke a stick at and more stupid slomo michael fucking bay shit than should ever be in a movie. The plot was kinda lame and it wasn’t nearly as good as the first one.. although Megan Fox was not bad too look at.
Why oh Why did someone during the making of this film not stop and say “We are depicting infantary fighting giant fucking robots…this is stupid even if they are special forces” Oh and a huge amount of product placement in this one even more than the last I think.
Altogether I give it a 2 thumbs up.
So my holidays were over 3 weeks or so ago. I spent most of it watching tv I got through
- Season 1-5 Two and a half men
- Season 3-4 the pretender
- Season 1-3 Seaquest
- Season 1-2 Weeds.
- Season 1ish of Batman the brave and the bold
I also saw X-men Origins: Wolverine and Star trek while on holidays both good movies.
X-men Origins: Wolverine is the story above Wolverines past and how he gets his adamantium skeleton, escapes looses his memory and all that. It was a good action flick with some great special effects and nice fight scenese. It lost some points with me because it wasn’t accurate to what I am aware of with wolverine and some of the supporting cast’s histories it gets 3.5/5 thumbs up.
star trek was great it was an excellent reboot and I think it will draw non trekkies to future star trek movies it was just well done all round. The cast did a good job of bringing traits from the original characters to the movie (especially bones) the special effects were good my only gripes are some of what they portrayed was stupidly insulting (atomspheric entry jump?) and that they had to use time travel yet again..however the purpose of the reboot was to also setup an alternate reality and time line so i guess it was needed. It gets 4.5/5 thumbs up.
I also played wolverine on the pc and beat it..twas a fun game with some ok graphics and some nice violence. I bought stalker in the last week of holidays for #10 but haven’t played it much…such a good deal thoug
I saw the hangover last Sunday it was pretty funny 3.2/5 thumbs up from me
Nana died a week ago tomorrow, I went to Sydney on Thursday and spent time with the family before attending the funeral on Friday. The service was short (30mins) and sans religious bullshit which was nice..after we went to pops for drinks and nibbles until later in the night.
I spent the next 2 days down in Sydney with family and visited other grandparents and went to nieces 1st bday party (dumb idea)
Umm yeah done.
Tonight Raina and I went and saw Taken, there was no one else in the cinema and when it started they had the wrong movie on.
I enjoyed taken, the story is a man’s daughter is kidnapped while she is on holiday he is some kind of special agent man (played by Liam Neeson) and goes after her. There was lots of action and we both really enjoyed it. I give it 3.8 thumbs up (Awesoments rating pending)
After the movie I said “even if they killed him, he would just return more powerful than they could ever imagine” and we had a laugh. For someone who is 56 he kicked some serious arse in a real physical role.
I saw forbidden kingdom yesterday with Jason.. it was an enjoyable martial arts movie with Jet Li and Jackie Chan and a bunch of other people. The fight scenes were cool the story was decent..although it woulda been better without a yank. I’ll give it 3.5 thumbs up.
And last night Jason and I went to Rubies Bday party and there was good food and drink and some ear destroying karaoke.

So Karl what have you been up to?
I’ve seen a bunch of movies and watched a bunch of tv shows and spent time with friends. Of the movies I have seen Batman The Dark Knight stood out as the best one this year..what an excellent movie. Others worthy of mention mostly because I enjoyed them Hancock, Indiana Jones 4, Ironman, The Incredible Hulk. Movies that get a mention because you should avoid them Wanted, Love Guru.
On the TV front I have spread the word of dexter and got a few of my workmates and friends watching it, I have watched many a series and am currently watching the weekly episodes of burn notice, eureka, stargate atlantis, the middleman and weeds. I have also been rewatching babylon 5 and for the first time a show called John Doe.
Work has changed a little I am no long doing Level 1 support and my stuff has moved I’m now in the poorly named hosting unit and my duties are primarily System Admin stuff and some higher level support. I have to say the change has been good and bad..there are many things in use that I am now expected to manage that I know jack all about but fake it anyway, but the best part is not being on the phones even if I do have a manger I have to train.

So I have seen a few movies since my last post which was last month…
There will be blood – A movie set before the turn of the 20th century that chronicles the life of a silver miner who turns himself into an oil tycoon. I really enjoyed this movie although I hadn’t read the description before I saw it and I thought with that title there would be lots of blood and there wasn’t it was still an enjoyable flick I give it 4 out of 5 thumbs up.
Drillbit Taylor – A couple of kids who are being beat up at school decide to hire a body guard to protect them, after interviewing a number of candidates (including one played by Adam Baldwin) the kids begin to realise that no body guard will work for $100 a week, until Drillbit Taylora bum who passes himself off as a Green Berat shows up and accepts. I laughed more than a couple of times at this movie it was enjoyable but I would wait for it on dvd 2.5/5 thumbs up
Hitman – A movie adapation of a sucessful game about a hitman. Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood, Die Hard 4) plays Agent 47 the hitman..he did an ok job The action in this movie was well paced and enertaining to watch although the makers used some scenes from Dark Angel in the intro and the position of the Dark Angel kids barcodes was on their neck as opposed to the hitman barcodes on their head..it was dumb to do it so they loose points 1/5 thumbs up
Superhero Movie – This movie is made by one of the guys who worked on the original scary movie and its funnier than some of the other movies that have come from the group. Its a movie about a Superhero named Dragonfly who seems to have a life comprised of elements of Spiderman, Batman, Superman and an encouter with X-menish elements. I found it very amusing in parts and Raina describd it as School boy humour which it was. Still more entertaining than drill bit so 3/5 thumbs up.
I went shopping…and have cooked 3 times since weird.
Yesterday was the Inaugural Cake Day..that is from last week it was decided to have one cake day a month for each persons bday instead of a cake (or two) for each bday in a month, some months like May have 5 bdays in them..may is a popular month for bdays.
Additionally we were informed that one of the companies considering using the product the company I work for (notice I didn’t use our) develop is going to see two customers of ours and discuss their experience with us..I let out a loud laugh which probably was unwise. One of the customers is unhappy with us because something they heavily rely on always breaks the other was promised something at least a year ago and its still in development because resources kept getting reassigned from it.
Over the weekend I watched much arrested development its funny…in fact I watched all of arrested development, some dr who and I saw the latest Rambo movie.
Rambo was a very rambo movie, shooting, blood, explosions. Despite the fact Stalone is 62ish now he still did pretty well in this movie it was a good action flick i give it 3 thumbs up.
Well I worked back last night fortunately only 30 mins not too pleased about that. When I got home I watched some classic Dr Who and stuffed around a little on facebook ate some reheated pizza. Later on Raina came over and we watched the Shawshnk Redemption, we had both had a few questions on it on facebook when doing the movie quiz and she had read the book a few weeks ago and bought the dvd last week.
I enjoyed the Shawshank redemption, Morgan Freeman was great as usual and while I am not a fan of Tim Robbins he was good in the movie. I give it 4.2 thumbs up
After Raina Left I played Hellgate london until about 4:30 then went to bed.
Firstly.. new blog software used to be MT now WP, congrats to the WP guys for making the import so easy.
Last night I went and saw Juno, Its a comedy about a teenage pregnancy it has good acting and great comic delivery and I really enjoyed it I give it a 4.2/5 thumbs up
I recently reinstalled my machine which allowed me to once more play games I have been playing BioShock and Hellgate London, the latter is made by the same people that made Diablo II and it is a similar kind of game with some similar things, skill tree’s normal, enhanced, rare, legendary and unique items, personal relocation devices (town portaly) the combat is more interactive and you have a few options with how to play the character there are also 6 classes. Bioshock is fun as well..
Raina and I went and saw Beowulf last night we had seen the previews and thought that it could either be very good or very bad. Turns out is was just very “Interesting”.
Neither of us realised before we went in that the movie was entirely CG every character in the movie was a CG character based on a actor. The story was good although a little drawn out and the CG was pretty amazing..but movies where they try to do every single character in CG don’t work for me. One thing that was super annoying was the fact that because they could they use weird and stupid angles that you wouldn’t touch ordinarily they did. Additionally because they can do anything they want and they can ignore reality they do..they ask you to suspend disbelief a little too much. Monsters, dragons, demons, heroes I can all get behind being in a movie..but some of what was in this movie was more than a little daft.
When we got home we looked the movie up in imdb to see who played what and had a laugh at the plot keywords. “Impalement / Stabbed In The Arm / Sliced In Two / Shield / Burning City” the list goes on it made us chuckle.
All in all I think i will give it a 2.5 thumbs up.
